In this paper the authors describe numerical results that confirm the concept that a new two-dimensional enhanced nonlinear energy sink can isolate vibration more efficiently than traditional nonlinear energy sinks. Reduction of vibration in systems is a continuing goal in engineering systems. The authors present support for a structure that includes a linear oscillator with a coupled vibro-impact damper. The damper is effectively a nonlinear energy sink.\N\NThe authors here follow up on prior work described in [the authors, J. Appl. Math. 1, No. 3, Paper No. 199, 13 p. (2023; \url{doi:10.59400/jam.v1i3.199})]. They consider a vibro-elastic system that has a primary structure consisting of a linear oscillator and a vibro-impact damper that is coupled with it. The damper provides a nonlinear energy sink.\N\NThe paper describes the authors' investigation of optimizing damper parameters that best mitigate the primary structure energy. They choose the maximum amplitude of the oscillation of the primary structure as their objective function, and optimize damper parameters that include mass, stiffness and clearance.\N\NThe authors suggest that optimization using these several parameters has a synergistic effect and leads to the most effective design.
