In this article, the author describes and analyses Sir Isaac Newton's (1642--1727) short, unfinished manuscript \textit{De aere et aethere} in which Newton proposed speculative natural philosophy of interparticulate forces of attraction and repulsion.\N\NIt is argued that this manuscript could be considered as Newton's milestone work in which he had tried to develop a convincing account of the role of air and aether in physics. The author asserts that its dating should be after Newton wrote a well-known letter to Boyle, that is 1679, and not as previously claimed before 1675.
