The paper under review is concerned with the abelian extensions of primitive quartic CM fields \(K\). To this end, the authors study principally polarised abelian surfaces \(A\) (ppas) with endomorphism ring isomorphic to the ring of integers \(\mathcal{O}_K\) of \(K\). Like for CM elliptic curves, the Igusa invariants of \(A\) generate an unramified abelian extension of the reflex field \(R\) of \(K\). This is related to the so-called Igusa class polynomial \(P_K\in\mathbb{Q}[X]\) (not necessarily irreducible over \(\mathbb{Q}\)). The authors develop an explicit geometric description of the Galois action of the class group of \(R\) on the Igusa invariants by studying all ppas with CM by \(\mathcal{O}_K\). They find maps between various Siegel modular varieties. This allows them to speed up previously known algorithms to compute the polynomial \(P_K\).
