A nearring \(R\) is called semi-distributive if for all \(r,s,t\in R\) we have \((r+s+r)t=rt+st+rt\). Assume \(R\) is semi-distributive with identity, then the authors prove that \((R,+)\) is commutative. An example based on the symmetric group on three elements as additive group shows that the existence of an identity is essential.\N\NThe authors prove that if \((R,+)\) has no elements of order two (in particular if it is torsion-free), then \(R\) is actually a ring. Moreover, a semi-distributive nearring with identity is simple if and only if it is a simple ring.
