Cluster algebras were first introduced by Fomin and Zelevinsky to investigate total positivity of Lie groups and canonical bases of quantum groups. They are subalgebras of rational function fields over a certain field. Nowadays, cluster algebras are closely related to different subjects in mathematics, such as higher Teichmuller theory, representation theory, Poisson geometry, integrable system, number theory.\N\NIn this paper, for the mutation invariants of cluster algebras of rank 2, the authors ``characterize the mutation invariants of finite type. Two examples are provided for the affine type and we prove the non-existence of Laurent mutation invariants of non-affine type. As an application, a class of Diophantine equations encoded with cluster algebras are studied.''
