    The authors consider the autonomous differential equation \[ \begin{multlined} (y' - {y^{2}}) {y^{2}}y''' =\\ {y^{2}}{y''{}^{2}} + {a_1}y{y'{}^{2}}y'' + {a_2}{y'{}^{4}} + {a_3}{y^{3}}y'y'' + {a_4}{y^{2}}{y'{}^{3}} + {a_5}{y^{5}}y'' + {a_6}{y^{4}}{y'{}^2} + {a_7}{y^{6}}y' + {a_8}{y^{8}},\end{multlined}\tag{1} \] where \({a_1}, \ldots ,{a_8}\) are constants. They replace equation (1) by the system \[ y' = {y^2}u,\quad (u - 1)u'' = {u'{}^2} - p(u)u'y - q(u){y^2}, \] where the polynomials \(p\) and \(q\) are defined by the formulas \[ \begin{align*}{ & p(u) = (2 - {a_1}){u^2} - ({a_3} + 6)u - {a_5}, \cr & q(u) = (2 - 2{a_1} - {a_2}){u^4} - (2{a_3} + {a_4} + 6){u^3} - (2{a_5} + {a_6}){u^2} - {a_7}u - {a_8}. \cr}\end{align*} \] When the polynomials \(p\) and \(q\) satisfy to condition \({p\left( {\text{1}} \right)q'\left( {\text{1}} \right) \neq {\text{0}}}\), the authors derive necessary and sufficient conditions for the general solution of (1) to be meromorphic. Also they obtain equations with a movable singular line all of whose points are essentially singular points of the general solution.
