The authors prove that any continuous multiplicative spectral functional on a complex unital Hermitian Banach algebra is linear, i.e., it is a character.\N\NThis result generalizes a similar result obtained in the paper [\textit{A.~Maouche}, Colloq. Math. 71, No.~1, 43--45 (1996; Zbl 0890.46042)].
