Let \(R\) be an associative ring with involution \(\ast\). The element \(e\in R\) is called a projection if it is self-adjoint and idempotent, i.e., \(e^{\ast}=e^2=e\). A Rickart \(\ast\)-ring (respectively Baer \(\ast\)-ring) is a ring \(R\) with involution in which the right annihilator of any element (respectively of any nonempty subset) of \(R\) is generated as a right ideal by a projection. The ring \(R\) is \(\ast\)-Baer \(\ast\)-ring if the right \(\ast\)-annihilator of every nonempty subset of \(R\) is generated as a \(\ast\)-biideal by a projection. (The right \(\ast\)-annihilator of \(S\subset R\) is defined as the set of all elements \(x\in R\) such that \(Sx=Sx^{\ast}=0\).)\par In the paper under review the authors introduce \(\ast\)-Rickart \(\ast\)-rings (defined by the property that the right \(\ast\)-annihilator of any element is generated as a \(\ast\)-biideal by a projection) and study their properties. Among the obtained results are:\par (i) Every Rickart \(\ast\)-ring is also a \(\ast\)-Rickart \(\ast\)-ring.\par (ii) A necessary and sufficient condition for a \(\ast\)-Rickart \(\ast\)-ring to be a Rickart \(\ast\)-ring is found.\par (iii) The relationship between \(\ast\)-Rickart \(\ast\)-rings and \(\ast\)-Baer \(\ast\)-rings is investigated.\par (iv) Several properties of \(\ast\)-Rickart \(\ast\)-rings are presented.\par (v) The property of \(\ast\)-Rickart can be extended to several rings related with the ring under consideration.\par (vi) \(\ast\)-Rickart \(\ast\)-rings with descending chain condition on \(\ast\)-biideals are studied.\par (vii) All \(\ast\)-Rickart (\(\ast\)-Baer) \(\ast\)-rings with finitely many elements are classified.
