The authors consider composite conical shells containing multiscale functionally graded carbon nanotube (CNT) and also metal and ceramic inclusions. The finite element method with an isoparametric eight-node element is used to model the shell. The model takes into account the effects of power law index, weight fraction of CNTs, length-to-thickness ratio, aspect ratio, twist angle and rotational speeds on fundamental natural frequency. Free vibrations of plates and shells under both rotating and static conditions are studied. The application of Lagrange's equations of motion for moderate rotation speed with neglecting Coriolis effect gives the dynamic equations for these investigations. Mode shapes of both twisted and untwisted conical shells under varying rotating conditions are presented.
