Let \(G\) be a finite group and let \(\mathcal C = \bigoplus_{g \in G}\mathcal C_g\) be a \(G\)-grading on a tensor category \(\mathcal C\). The group gradings considered in this paper are such that every homogeneous component \(\mathcal C_g\) has at least one invertible object of \(\mathcal C\), so in particular they are faithful, and in this case the tensor category \(\mathcal C\) is called a crossed product. The main result of the paper is a description of crossed product tensor categories, graded monoidal functors, monoidal natural transformations and braidings in terms of coherent outer \(G\)-actions over tensor categories. Related results for fusion categories have been obtained by \textit{P. Etingof, D. Nikshych} and \textit{V. Ostrik} [Quantum Topol. 1, No. 3, 209--273 (2010; Zbl 1214.18007)], where a complete description of group extensions of a fusion category, corresponding to faithful group gradings, was given.
