The author studies local diffeomorphisms \(f\) which are robust from the point of view of periodic orbits, i.e., the periodic orbits of any local diffeomorphism \(g\) which is \(C^1\)-close to \(f\) are expanding. Then the author proves that \(f\) itself must be expanding. Using this, he recovers a result of Sakai saying that there exists a residual subset of smooth maps such that positive expansiveness implies expanding. Also, he shows that there exists a residual subset \(R\) of diffeomorphisms such that if \(f \in R\) is expansive, then \(f\) is Axiom A without cycles.
