In an earlier joint work with \textit{Y. Machida} [SIGMA, Symmetry Integrability Geom. Methods Appl. 17, Paper 061, 60 p. (2021; Zbl 1508.53021)], the authors developed techniques to study systems of linear differential equations using extrinsic geometry of submanifolds in generalized flag varieties. In this article, they apply this theory to a specific family of equations, for which the corresponding flag variety is associated to the adjoint representation of \(\mathrm{SL}(3,\mathbb R)\). The corresponding equations are overdetermined systems defined on three-dimensional contact manifolds, in which the second derivatives in contact directions are prescribed.\N\NIn particular, the authors give a full classification of submanifolds which are homogeneous under the action of a subgroup of \(\mathrm{SL}(3,\mathbb R)\). This then leads to a full description of the systems for which the symmetries act transitively. Moreover, for each of the resulting seven examples, the symmetry algebra and its realizations are determined explicitly.
