The authors study the asymptotic stability of a retarded scalar linear differential equation of the form\N\[\Nx'(t)=-ax(t)-bx(t-\tau)-c\int_{t-\tau}^tx(s)\,ds,\ \ \ t\ge0,\N\]\Nwhere \(a\), \(b\), \(c\) and \(\tau>0\) are real numbers.\N\NTwo new delaydependent criteria on asymptotic stability of the zero solution are established. In particular, it is claimed that inequality \(a+b+c\tau>0\) is necessary. Detailed proofs are given.\N\NIt is shown that the new results are in good agreement with those known in the literature. The article will be useful to anyone interested in this type of delay equations.
