This paper deals with the order reduction of the time domain model (MOR) of discrete-time bilinear systems in terms of discrete Walsh functions, where the reduced-order system is generated by means of the explicit solution formula for the discrete-time bilinear system. This results in expanding the discrete bilinear system in the space generated by the discrete Walsh functions and then in reducing the order of the system by the orthogonal projection matrix defined by the discrete Walsh coefficient matrix. This means that, theoretically, the outputs of the reduced-order systems can well match the first outputs of the original system in a finite interval. The MOR method is investigated from the point of view of the nonzero initial condition, where this condition is also used to create the orthogonal projection matrix. The outputs of the resulting reduced-order system can always match the first outputs of the original system in finite intervals. The main contributions of this paper are: (1) The explicit solution formula for the discrete-time bilinear system is given under the initial condition. (2) The time-domain MOR methods using discrete Walsh functions are first proposed for discrete-time bilinear systems. (3) The outputs of the resulting reduced-order systems can precisely match the first outputs of the original system, which is different from the existing MOR methods. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is finally illustrated by an example.
