Let \(R\) be a commutative ring with unity. A proper ideal \(I\) of \(R\) is called a \(J\)-ideal if whenever \(a,b\in R\) such that \(ab\in I\) and \(a\) is not in the Jacobson radical \(J(R)\), then \(b\in I\) [10]. In this paper, the authors generalize the notion of \(J\)-ideals into quasi \(j\)-ideals. A proper ideal \(I\) of is called a quasi \(J\)-ideal if the radical \(\sqrt{I}\) is a \(J\)-ideal.\N\NAmong other equivalents of Theorem 1, the authors show that the property for a proper ideal \(I\) to be a quasi \(J\)-ideal is equivalent to: if \(a,b\in R\) and \(ab\in I\), then \(a\in J(R)\) or \(b\in \sqrt{I}\).\N\NThe notion of quasi \(J\)-ideals (\(J\)-ideals) is used to characterize some rings and their properties. For example, a ring \(R\) is a quasi-local ring if and only if every proper principal ideal of \(R\) is a quasi \(J\)-ideal (\(J\)-ideal) (Theorem 2). Another example is that a semiprimitive ring \(R\) is a domain if and only if the zero ideal is the only quasi \(J\)-ideal of \(R\).\N\NFurthermore, the authors generalize the concept of presimplifiable rings [7] into quasi-presimplifiable rings, where a ring \(R\) is a quasi-presimplifiable if whenever \(a,b\in R\) such that \(a=ab\), then \(a\) is a nilpotent or \(b\) is a unit. They consider the relationship between quasi \(J\)-ideals (\(J\)-ideals) and quasi-presimplifiable rings (presimplifiable rings) (Theorem 5). In particular, a ring \(R\) is a quasi presimplifiable (presimplifiable) if and only if the zero ideal is a quasi \(J\)-ideal (\(J\)-ideal).\N\NFinally, the authors discuss the interactions between quasi \(J\)-ideals of a ring \(R\) and those of some of its extensions such as the polynomial ring \(R[x]\) and the idealization \(R(+)M\) for an \(R\)-module \(M\).
