A bounded set \(S\subset X\) is called Dunford-Pettis (\(DP\)) if every weakly null sequence \((x^*_n)\) in \(X^*\) tends to \(0\) uniformly on \(S\). \par A space \(X\) has the \(p\)-Dunford-Pettis relatively compact property (\(p\)-\(DPrcP\)) if every \(DP\) weakly \(p\)-summable sequence in \(X\) is norm null.\par The author observes that given \(2\leq p<\infty\), a subset \(S\subset X\) is weakly precompact (i.e. every sequence in \(S\) has a weakly Cauchy subsequence) iff \(T(S)\) is relatively compact for every completely continuous operator \(T\colon X\longrightarrow \ell_p\). As a consequence, the following statement holds true: \par Theorem. Let \(2\leq p<\infty\). Then \(X\not\hookrightarrow \ell_1\) iff \(X^*\) has the \(p\)-\(DPrcP\).\par The next results concern the \(p\)-\(DPrcP\) of \(L(X,Y)\), the space of all bounded linear operators form \(X\) to \(Y\). Among other statements the author shows: \par Theorem. Let \(X=\ell_q\), \(1<q<\infty\), and \(Y=c_0\). Then \(\ell_1\not\hookrightarrow X \otimes_\pi Y\), every \(T\in L(X,Y^*)\) is compact and \(L(X,Y^*)\) has the \(p\)-\(DPrcD\) for all \(1\leq p<\infty\). The same conclusion holds for \(X=C(K_1)\) and \(Y=C(K_2)\) and scattered compacts \(K_1\) and \(K_2\).\par Similar variant is proved for \(L_{w^*}(X^*,Y)\), the space of all linear \(w^*\)-\(w\) continuous operators from \(X^*\) to \(Y\).\par Theorem. Let \(1\leq p<\infty\). Suppose that \(X\) has the \(p\)-\(DPrcP\) and \(Y\) has the Schur property. Then every \(T\in L_{w^*}(X^*,Y)\) is \(w^*\)-\(w\) compact and \(L_{w^*}(X^*,Y)\) has the \(p\)-\(DPrcD\). The same conclusion holds for \(X\) having the Schur property and \(Y\) with the \(p\)-\(DPrcD\).
