Representations of the symmetric group \(S_n\) can be approached in three different ways: by using results from the general theory of group representations, by means of combinatorial techniques, or via symmetric functions. This paper aims to bring together some of the important results in this field, with the construction of the irreducible representations of \(S_n\) via the Young Symmetrizers and the Frobenius formula.\N\NThe paper is divided into five sections. After some preliminary results on elementary group theory and representation theory, the third section is dedicated to the study of the Young tableaux and the representations of \(S_n\) by means of permutation modules. It is shown the connection between them, and how one can construct a permutation module corresponding to each conjugacy class of \(S_n\). Section 4 introduces the symmetric and Schur functions and explores their relationship with the formal and combinatorial properties of Frobenius. The final section deals with Specht Modules, which are irreducible submodules of the permutation modules. A complete description of the construction of the irreducible representations via Young symmetrizers and the Frobenius Formula is given. The paper ends, as an example, with the production of the character table of \(S_6\).\N\NFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1537.16001].
