In the paper under review, the authors estimate the following sum over the von Mangoldt function, for the values \(k=1,2\) and large real numbers \(x\) and \(y\),\N\[\NS_{k}(x,y):=\sum _{n\le y}\left( \sum _{q\le x}\sum _{d|\gcd(n,q)}d\Lambda \left( \frac{q}{d}\right) \right) ^{k}.\N\]\NFor the case \(k=1\), in the range \(x \log x \ll y \ll \frac{x^{2}}{\log x}\) they show that\N\[\NS_{1}(x,y)= yx(\log x -1) + \frac{\zeta '(2)}{4\zeta (2)}x^{2} + O\left( xy^{\frac{1}{3}}\log x + y\log x + \frac{x^3}{y} \right),\N\]\Nand in the range \(1\ll y \ll \frac{x^{7/5}}{\log ^{2}x}\), they show that\N\[\N\begin{aligned} S_{1}(x,y)= yx(\log x -1) + \frac{\zeta '(2)}{4\zeta (2)} x^{2} &+ x^{2}\left( \frac{x}{y}\right) ^{\frac{1}{4}}\kappa (u) \nonumber \\\N&+ O\left( xy^{\frac{1}{3}}\log ^{4} x + yx^{\frac{1}{2}}\log ^{\frac{5}{2}}x \right), \end{aligned}\N\]\Nwhere \(\kappa (u)\) denotes the Fourier integral given by\N\[\N\kappa (u):= \frac{1}{2\pi }\int _{-\infty }^{\infty } \frac{\zeta (-\frac{1}{4}-it)\zeta '(\frac{9}{4}+it)}{\zeta (\frac{9}{4}+it)} \frac{\textrm{e}^{itu}}{(\frac{1}{4}+it)(\frac{9}{4}+it)}dt.\N\]\NFor the case \(k=2\), in the range \(y \gg \frac{x^{2}}{\log ^{3}x}\), they show that\N\[\NS_2(x,y)= \frac{1}{3\zeta (2)}yx^{2}\log ^{3}x + O\left( yx^{2}\log ^{2}x + x^{4} \right),\N\]\Nand in the range \(x \log ^{16}x \ll y \ll \frac{x^2}{\log ^{16}x}\) they prove that\N\[\N\begin{aligned} S_2(x,y)&= \frac{1}{3\zeta (2)}yx^{2}\log ^{3}x + c_{1} yx^{2}\log ^{2}x + c_{2} yx^{2}\log x + (c_{3}-c_{6}) yx^{2} \nonumber \\\N&+\frac{1}{6\zeta (2)} y x^2 \log ^{3}\frac{x^2}{y} - c_{4} y x^2 \log ^{2}\frac{x^2}{y} + c_{5} y x^2 \log \frac{x^2}{y} + E(x,y),\nonumber \\\N\end{aligned}\N\]\Nwhere the error term \(E(x, y)\) is estimated by\N\[\NE(x,y)\ll x^{5/3}y\log^{8} (xy) + \left( x^2y\log^{10} (xy)\right) \left( \left( \frac{x}{y} \right) ^{1/2} + \left( \frac{y}{x^2}\right) ^{1/2}\right),\N\]\Nand the coefficients \(c_1,\dots,c_6\) are computed explicitly in terms of the values of the Riemann zeta function and its derivatives.
