The characteristics of a smooth convex set \(K\subset\mathbb{R}^{2n}\) equipped with the standard symplectic structure may be seen as the Hamiltonian trajectories on the boundary of \(K\) when it is realized as the level set of a Hamiltonian. In pursuit of the conjecture that having all characteristics closed for a smooth convex body is enough to show it is a symplectomorphic image of a ball (known for \(n=2\) and for bodies that are also \(C^3\)-close to balls) the main results here are an explicit formula for the volume of \(K\) if all characteristics are closed with the same symplectic action and in the strongly convex case that \(K\) is an affine symplectic image of a ball if all characteristics are planar (that is, contained in some affine plane).
