The behavior of solutions of the second order ordinary differential equation \[ (a(t)u'(t))'+b(t)u'(t)+c(t)u(t)=f(t),\quad t\in [0,d]\tag{1} \] in a neighborhood of a point \(t_0\in [0,d]\) of degeneration of the coefficient \(a(t)\), \(a(t_0)=0\), is studied. The author gives the exact asymptotic representations of the solutions of (1) near the degeneration point \(t_0.\) In particular, the obtained results can be applied to the investigation of oscillation properties of the solutions of (1).
