Let \(f\) be an irreducible polynomial in \(\mathbb{Q}[x]\) and \(\alpha_1,\dots,\alpha_n\) its roots in \(\overline{\mathbb{Q}}\). This paper deals with the problem of finding minimal subsets \(\{\alpha _{i_1},\dots,\alpha_{i_k}\}\) such that \(\mathbb{Q}(\alpha_1,\dots,\alpha_n )= \mathbb{Q}(\alpha_{i_1},\dots,\alpha_{i_k})\). For such a minimal system of roots there are polynomials \(F_1,\dots,F_n \in \mathbb{Q}[x_1,\dots,x_k]\) such that \(\alpha_j=F_j(\alpha_{i_1},\dots,\alpha_{i_k}), j=1,\dots,n\). The authors prove that when the Galois group of \(f\) is a sharply \(k\)-transitive permutation group, the polynomials \(F_i\) are unique, modulo some ideal in \(\mathbb{Q}[x_1,\dots,x_k]\), constructed from the polynomial \(f\), and compute explicitly the polynomials \(F_i\) by using \(\ell\)-adic Newton liftings. As a by-product, they obtain a criterion to decide whether a polynomial has a sharply \(k\)-transitive permutation Galois group. They provide a detailed example in which the Galois group of \(f\) is the sharply \(2\)-transitive group \(9T14\).
