A topological space \((X,\tau)\) is a \(D\)-space if and only if for every function \(N\colon X\to\tau\) such that \(x\in N(x)\) for all \(x\in X\), there is a closed discrete subset \(D\) of \(X\) such that \(\{N(d) \mid d\in D\}\) covers \(X\). The authors prove that if \(X\) is well-ordered (\(\alpha A\)), or linearly semi-stratifiable, or elastic, then \(X\) is a \(D\)-space.
