The authors introduce the notion of bipolar Coxeter groups: the class of those Coxeter groups for which removing from the Cayley graph any tubular neighborhood of any wall leaves exactly two connected components. This class includes the virtually Poincaré duality Coxeter groups and the infinite irreducible 2-spherical ones. The latter inclusion is a corollary of their characterization of finitely generated bipolar Coxeter groups by a certain generating set. Further, they prove that all bipolar Coxeter groups are strongly rigid, and that every automorphism of a bipolar Coxeter group is inner-by-graph (a product of an inner automorphism and a graph automorphism). Finally they provide counter examples having a unique conjugacy class of Coxeter generating sets to the question whether bipolarity characterizes Coxeter groups.
