The authors extend the corner cutting subdivision scheme from refining control points to refining control curves. The key point is to deal with curves as if they are points in a bigger space, the space of parametrized curves. In this way, it is possible to build a surface, in fact a ruled surface, as a curve between two curves. Obviously, some basic conditions on the initial curves must be imposed to obtain a surface with nice properties, for example, they must be of the same topology. The generalized subdivision scheme is called ``faced cuting''. It is based on an optimal correspondence between the points of two curves and using then the corner cutting subdivision scheme to produce a new curve.
