For an elliptic curve \(X\) the author studies the Drinfeld double \(\mathbf{U}_X\) of the spherical Hall algebra \(\mathbf{U}_X^+\) of \(X\). The author shows that \(\mathbf{U}_X\) can be abstractly presented as generated by certain natural elements subject to the standard quadratic functional equations together with a certain set of cubic relations. This presentation is similar in spirit to Drinfeld's ``new'' realizations of quantum affine algebras. It is also shown that the rational form \(\mathcal{E}\) of \(\mathbf{U}_X\) appears in connection to spherical Cherednik algebras, that it can be identified with the convolution algebra acting on the equivariant \(K\)-theory of Hilbert schemes of points in \(\mathbb{C}^2\) and that the positive half of \(\mathcal{E}\) admits a realization as a shuffle algebra of Feigin-Odesskii type. The algebra \(\mathcal{E}\) also appears in the paper [\url{http://arxiv.org/abs/1002.3100}] and the author uses his presentation to verify some conjectures from the latter paper.
