Let $d\geq 1$ natural and $\eta \in \{ 0, 1\}^d$. A function $f:{\mathbb R}^d \rightarrow {\mathbb C}$ that is either even or odd with respect to the $i$th coordinate according to whether $\eta_i = 0$ or $\eta_i =1$, respectively, is called $\eta$-symmetric. The author characterizes smooth functions on ${\mathbb R}^d_+$ that: (i) admit $\eta$-symmetric extensions onto ${\mathbb R}^d$; (ii) are restrictions of $\eta$-symmetric Schwartz functions on ${\mathbb R}^d$. As an application it follows that the multi-dimensional Hankel transforms conjugated by a natural multiplier operator have the restrictions to ${\mathbb R}^d_+$ of $\eta$-symmetric Schwartz functions on ${\mathbb R}^d$ as their test function spaces.
