Let $\mathcal{S}'(\mathbb{Z}^d)$ be the ring of all complex-valued maps on $\mathbb{Z}^d$ of at most polynomial growth with pointwise operations, which is isomorphic to the ring of distributions that are periodic with respect to a given linearly independent set of periods in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with pointwise addition and convolution as multiplication. \par This article establishes the following algebraic properties of $\mathcal{S}'(\mathbb{Z}^d)$: is is not Noetherian; it is a Bézout ring, coherent, and a Hermite ring; it is not projective-free; for $m \in \mathbb{N}$, $SL_m(\mathcal{S}'(\mathbb{Z}^d))$ is generated by elementary matrices; and finally, the solvability of $Ax=b$ in $\mathcal{S}'(\mathbb{Z}^d)$ is characterized in terms of a generalized corona-type pointwise condition. \par The article is well-motivated, easily readable and gives many useful references.
