The convection-diffusion equation \(u_t+pu_x=\varepsilon u_xx, x>0, t>0\), where \(p\) and \(\varepsilon\) are positive constants, with \(0<\varepsilon\ll 1\), and subject to initial value \(u(x,0)=f(x), x>0\) and the Dirichlet boundary condition \(u(0,t)=g(t), t>0\), can be solved explicitly in the form of an integral. The paper gives a detailed study on how to obtain the asymptotic expansion of \(u(x,t)\) as \(\varepsilon\to 1\), which expansion holds uniformly in the quarter plane. Also, internal layer structures for the problem with corner singularity are discussed. When \(f\) and \(g\) are polynomials of a certain degree, information on the remainder term in the expansion is provided.
