It is shown that if the analogue of Littlewood-Paley's theorem holds for some \(p, 1<p<\infty\), and for all strongly \(p\)-integrable functions with values in a given Banach space \(B\), then \(B\) is isomorphic to a Hilbert space. In the final step of the proof Kwapien's well-known characterization of inner product spaces is used, but the reduction needs hard work.
