Isometric embedding for homogeneous compact 3-manifolds (Q674879)

The authors consider the problem of the global isometric embedding of the 3-sphere and real projective 3-space in 9-dimensional Euclidean and pseudo-Euclidean spaces. Such embeddings have application in relativistic cosmology for Bianchi type IX models of the universe. The authors show that space sections of their anti-Mach metric [Nature 193, 1168-1169 (1962; Zbl 0113.45004); Ann. Phys. 55, 166-204 (1969)] can be realized as a submanifold of a 9-dimensional Euclidean space, and an isometric embedding of SO(3) with its natural Killing metric is exhibited.
