The \(\eta\)-invariant of mapping tori is defined by means of the spectrum of a certain elliptic operator. In this paper, the author gives a geometric interpretation of the deviation from the multiplicativity of the \(\eta\)-invariant for finite coverings. This is then applied to mapping tori with finite monodromies, and a simple formula of the \(\eta\)-invariant is obtained.
