This paper deals with a mathematical model of population biology. The main goal is to understand whether a system composed of multiple competitive patches, which are connected by species dispersion, is globally stable or not if each isolated patch is globally stable. The authors show that under certain assumptions on the dispersal rates (e.g., the dispersal matrices are symmetric), competition of two species which disperse between several patches, leads to a globally stable equilibrium, even in a heterogeneous environment. The method of analysis used is similar to that presented in the authors' earlier paper [\textit{J. Hofbauer} and \textit{J. W.-H. So}, Nonlinear Anal., Theory, Methods Appl. 22, No. 8, 1017-1031 (1994; Zbl 0831.92027)].
