The book is an exposition of the recent results on the study of evolution equations (mainly the parabolic ones) by means of the method of Lagrangian coordinates. The book is a very good reference for researchers in the field and suitable for doctoral and postdoctoral students. The Lagrangian method applies the mechanical Lagrangian description to the study of abstract evolution equations. This is possible when the evolution equation is of divergent form. The ideas are developed in several directions: algebraic and numerical aspects, and the application to study free boundary problems. Chapter I is devoted to the Verigin problem, related to the mathematical modeling of joint motions of two immiscible liquids through a porous medium. It is presented the complete investigation of this problem in the one-dimensional formulation. In Chapter II, the authors discuss the algebraic properties of the transformation associated to the Lagrangian coordinates. Chapter III contains a systematic study of the Cauchy problem for equations of the generalized porous medium type. Chapter IV is a collection of results for the multidimensional free boundary problems for parabolic equations. Mainly, the two studied problems are the classical one-phase Stefan problem and the Boussinesq equation of the filtration theory.
