Let \(M\) be a \(C^r\)-manifold in a Banach space \(X\). For any point \(x_0\in M\) there exist a subspace \(L\subset X\), open neighborhoods \(U=U(x_0)\) and \(V=V(0)\) and a \(C^r\)-diffeomorphism \(\psi:V\to U\) such that \(\psi(0)=x_0\) and \(\psi(L\cap V)=M\cap U\). The main result is contained in the Theorem: If \(x_0\) is local extremal point of the functional \(I:M\to R\) defined on \(M\) and differentiable in a neighborhood of \(x_0\), then \(I'(x_0)\psi_L' (0)h=0\) for any \(h\in L\). As example the functional \(I(x)=|x|^2\) is considered where \(|\cdot|\) is the norm in \(X= H_0^1(\Omega)\), \(\Omega\) is a bounded open domain in \(R^n\), with continuous embedding \(X\) into \(L_p(\Omega)\) for \(p>\frac {2n}{n-2}\).
