The equation \[ (\text{sign }y)u_{xx}+ u_{yy}+ {2q\over y}u_x+{2q\over y}u_y= 0 \] with real parameters \(p\), \(q\) is considered in the unbounded domain \(D_1\cup\{(x,0)\mid x\in\mathbb{R}\}\cup D_2\subset\mathbb{R}^2\), where \(D_1\) is the half-plane \(y>0\) and \(D_2\) \((y<0)\) the characteristic triangle bounded below by \(x+y=0\) and \(x-y=1\). The Tricomi problem is investigated for various values of the parameters by the technique of integral equations. That is integral equations for the solution and certain derivates on the \(x\)-axis are derived which arise from the elliptic problem (e.g. boundedness at infinity) and the hyperbolic problem. Existence and uniqueness theorems are formulated.
