Polynomials and multilinear operators which are sequentially weak to norm continuous are of high interest in several applications. In the paper among other things it is shown that \(A\in L(\ell_{p_1},\dots, \ell_{p_N};\ell_q)\) is sequentially weak to norm continuous, iff \(\sum^N_{i= 1} 1/p_i< 1/q\). This generalizes Pitt's theorem for linear operators \(A:\ell_p\to \ell_q\) and \textit{A. Pełczyński's} theorem [Stud. Math. 16, 173-182 (1957; Zbl 0080.09701)] for polynomials. The authors show that the concept of \(\tau_\alpha\)-convergent sequences is very useful to treat the problem. For fixed \(0\leq\alpha<1\), a sequence \((x_n)\) in a Banach space \(E\) is called \(\tau_\alpha\)-convergent to \(0\) if there is some \(c>0\) such that \(\left|\sum_{n\in B} x_n\right|\leq c|B|^{\alpha}\) holds true for all finite subsets \(B\subseteq\mathbb{N}\). As a main result it is shown that \(N\)-linear mappings preserve the \(\tau_\alpha\)-convergence. Connections to lower and upper \(p\)-estimates are established.
