This paper considers the distribution of the function \[ f(t)=\sum_{n\leq T}d_k(n) n^{-\sigma-\text{it}}, \] where \(k=k(T)\to 0\) and \(\sigma=\sigma(T)\to\frac12\) are suitable functions of \(T\), and \(T\to\infty\). A limit theorem for \(f(t)\), in the space of continuous functions, is proved. It is hoped that this might be a precursor to a corresponding result for \(\zeta^k(\sigma+\text{it})\). However the situation here is considerably more difficult than that in which one restricts attention to a half plane \(\sigma\geq \sigma_0>\frac12\).
