This paper is concerned with the numerical solution of some types of differential algebraic equations (DAEs) by using the so-called MANPAK, a package of algorithms introduced by the author for computations on implicitly defined submanifolds of \(\mathbb{R}^n\). Three special types of DAEs of index one, two and three are considered and existence proofs of solutions are explicitly given. Further, these proofs suggest a practical computational approach of these solutions that can be carried out by means of the MANPAK routines. Roughly speaking, starting from a given initial point a local parametrization of the manifold constraining the problem is constructed and then one step of the numerical integration on this manifold is carried out with the explicit Runge-Kutta method DOPRI5. If the step is accepted, then the process is repeated from the computed point. Finally some numerical results are presented to show the behaviour of the proposed methods.
