For a a closed subspace \(Y\) of a normed linear space \((X,\|\cdot\|)\) and \(x\in X\), let \(\rho(x,Y)=\inf\{\| x-y\| : y\in Y\}\) be the distance from \(x\) to \(Y\), and \(P_Y(x)=\{y\in Y : \| x-y\|=\rho(x,Y)\}\) denote the metric projection of \(X\) on \(Y\). Let \( L_p(E)=L_p(E,\Sigma,\mu)\), \(1 < p < \infty\), be the Lebesgue space of \(p\)-integrable functions on the positive measure space \((E,\Sigma,\mu)\). Every subspace \(Y\) of \(L_p(E)\) is Chebyshevian and, for \(p\in (1,\infty)\setminus\{2\},\) the projection operator \(P_Y\) satisfies a Lipschitz condition if and only if supp\((Y):=\bigcup\{\mathrm{supp }(y) : y\in Y\}\) is a finite union of atoms of the measure \(\mu\) (Theorem 1). In the case of a one-dimensional subspace \(Y\), the paper gives estimations of the Lipschitz constant of the projection operator \(P_Y\) (Theorem 2).
