In the paper under review, the authors give a characterization of finite étale ring extensions \(R \subseteq S\) that have finitely many \(R\)-subalgebras. This generalizes their earlier result in [\textit{G. Picavet} and \textit{M. Picavet-L'Hermitte}, Palest. J. Math. 5, 63--80 (2016; Zbl 1346.13013)]. They observe that the results vary along the subextensions appearing into the canonical decomposition of an integral extension defined by the seminormalization and the \(t\)-closure of the extension. A special treatment is given for a subintegral extension \(R \subseteq S,\) which is never unramified if \(R \neq S.\)
