Convergence of Poisson transforms of functions on the boundary of symmetric spaces and of buildings of rank 1 have been investigated by \textit{P. Sjögren} [Ann. Math. (2) 124, 313--335 (1986; Zbl 0646.31008)] and \textit{A. Korányi} and \textit{M. A. Picardello} [Ann. Sc. Norm. Super. Pisa, Cl. Sci., IV. Ser. 13, 389--399 (1986; Zbl 0621.31005)], respectively. In a previous paper [Forum Math. 15, 23--35 (2003; Zbl 1039.31008)], the authors considered the case of thick affine buildings of type \(\tilde A_2\) and showed that the Poisson integral of a continuous function \(f\) on the maximal boundary of such a building tends uniformly to \(f\). In the paper under review, the authors deal with what they call restricted convergence of the normalized generalized Poisson transform \(\mathcal{P}_\chi f/\mathcal{P}_\chi 1\) of a function \(f \in L^1(\Omega)\) on the maximal boundary \(\Omega\) of an affine building of type \(\tilde A_2\) with respect to a non-singular character \(\chi\) of the fundamental apartment that satisfies a certain condition. They show that \(\mathcal{P}_\chi f/\mathcal{P}_\chi 1\) tends to \(f\) almost everywhere with respect to restricted convergence. The proof uses essentially known methods and is reduced to an estimate for a certain maximal operator.
