The stability problem of functional equations originated from a question of Ulam in 1940, concerning the stability of group homomorphisms. In [Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 27, 222--224 (1941; Zbl 0061.26403)], \textit{D. H. Hyers} gave a first answer to this question for Banach spaces. In this paper the authors prove the Hyers-Ulam stability of the following functional equation: \[ f (x + y) + f (x + \sigma(y)) = 2 f (x) + 2 f (y),\quad x, y \in X, \] on a set \(X\) of Lebesgue measure zero. In the above equation, \(f : X \to Y\) is a function and \(\sigma: X \to X\) is an involution. Using their result, they obtain an asymptotic behaviour of the equation.
