The authors generalize results obtained in the classification of groups of finite Morley rank of odd type [\textit{T. Altınel, A. V. Borovik} and \textit{G. Cherlin}, Simple groups of finite Morley rank. Mathematical Surveys and Monographs 145. Providence: AMS (2008; Zbl 1160.20024)] to groups of finite Morley rank which are \textit{locally\(^\circ\) solvable\(^\circ\)}, i.e.\ the normalizer of any infinite solvable subgroup is virtually solvable. They prove that if such a group \(G\) has an infinite Sylow 2-subgroup, then either it is virtually solvable, or it is isomorphic to \(\text{PSL}_2(K)\times E\) for some algebraically closed field \(K\) of characteristic \(2\) and some finite subgroup \(E\), or its connected component \(G^0\) is nonsolvable and of odd type. (Recall that a group is of \textit{even} type if a Sylow 2-subgroup \(S\) has finite exponent, of \textit{odd} type if \(S\) is virtually divisible Abelian, of \textit{degenerate} type if \(S\) is finite, and of \textit{mixed} type otherwise.)\N\N For groups of odd type, the authors deal with specialized topics and refer to a substantial paper in preparation. In particular, they deal with a definable involutive automorphism \(\alpha\) in case the Sylow 2-subgroup is central divisible (in this case \(G=C_G(\alpha)\cdot\{g\in G:g^\alpha=g^{-1}\}\)), solvable groups of odd type, groups of Prüfer \(2\)-rank \(1\) (if \(G\) is of odd type, there are three possibilities for a Sylow 2-subgroup: \(S=S^0\rtimes\langle w\rangle\) for some involution \(w\) acting on \(S^0\) by inversion; \(S=S^0\cdot\langle w\rangle\) for some \(w\) of order \(4\) acting on \(S^0\) by inversion; or \(S=S^0\)), and the Borovik-Cartan decomposition.\N\N The arguments are mainly adaptations of the corresponding results from the classification project.
