Throughout this paper, \(R\) is a local complete intersection and all modules are finitely generated. Avramov and Buchweitz's result [6] shows that if \(M\) and \(N\) are non-zero and Tor-independent, then \(V^{\ast}(M)\) and \(V^{\ast}(N)\) are disjoint and \[ \dim V^{\ast}(M\otimes_R N)=\dim V^{\ast}(M)+\dim V^{\ast}(N)+1, \] where \(V^{\ast}(-)\) denotes the cohomological support introduced by Avramov and Buchweitz. One of the main results in the paper under review gives a geometric clarification of this formula by proving that under the above hypothesis one has \(V^{\ast}(M\otimes_R N)=\text{Join}(V^{\ast}(M),V^{\ast}(N))\). Here, \(\text{Join}(V^{\ast}(M),V^{\ast}(N))\) denotes the join of the disjoint closed subschemes \(V^{\ast}(M)\) and \(V^{\ast}(N)\). The conclusion leads to many interesting corollaries and questions. Also the analogue of the above result for Ext is given by proving that if \(\text{Ext}^{>0}(M,N)=0\) then one has \(V^{\ast}(\text{Hom}(M,N))=\text{Join}(V^{\ast}(M),V^{\ast}(N))\).
