The paper studies asymptotic dimension of countable approximate groups and its behaviour under quasimorphisms. Recall that the asymptotic dimension \(\operatorname{asdim}X\) of a metric space \(X\) is the smallest integer \(n\) such that for every \(r>0\) the space admits a uniformly bounded cover that can be decomposed into \(n+1\) families which are \(r\)-disjoint. The work is motivated by the Hurewicz-type formula of \textit{A.~Dranishnikov} and \textit{J.~Smith} ([Fundam. Math. 189, No. 1, 27--34 (2006; Zbl 1100.20034)]) stating that for a group homomorphism \(f:G\to H\) one has \(\operatorname{asdim} G \le \operatorname{asdim} H + \operatorname{asdim}(\ker f)\).\N\NThe author establishes an analogous inequality for quasimorphisms between countable approximate groups. If \((\Xi,\Xi_\infty)\) and \((\Lambda,\Lambda_\infty)\) are countable approximate groups and \(f:(\Xi,\Xi_\infty)\to(\Lambda,\Lambda_\infty)\) is a quasimorphism with defect set \(D(f)\), one of the main results proves that\N\[\N\operatorname{asdim}\Xi \le \operatorname{asdim}\Lambda + \operatorname{asdim}\!\bigl(f^{-1}(f(e_{\Xi})D(f)^{-1}D(f))\bigr).\N\]\NAs a corollary, if \(f:G\to H\) is a quasimorphism of countable groups, the same inequality holds with \(G\) and \(H\) in place of \(\Xi\) and \(\Lambda\).\N\NA key step shows that a quasimorphism between countable approximate groups restricts to a coarsely Lipschitz map with respect to canonical proper metrics, which allows the author to apply a Hurewicz-type theorem for coarsely Lipschitz maps after controlling suitable preimage families.
