The paper deals with the power operator \(\mathcal P\) on the set of all semigroup pseudovarieties. If \(S\) is a semigroup, then \({\mathcal P}(S)\) denotes the power semigroup, whose elements are the subsets of \(S\) and whose operation is the usual subset multiplication. For a pseudovariety \(\mathcal V\) let \({\mathcal P}{\mathcal V}\) denote the pseudovariety generated by all semigroups of the form \({\mathcal P}(S)\) with \(S \in {\mathcal V}\). If \({\mathcal V}\subseteq{\mathbf P}\text{erm}\), where \({\mathbf P}\text{erm}\) is the pseudovariety of semigroups satisfying some nontrivial permutation identity, then in 1991 the author obtained a general description of \({\mathcal P}{\mathcal V}\). For further investigations of the operator \(\mathcal P\) the knowledge of a complete list of minimal nonpermutative pseudovarieties which has been obtained by the author [in Pac. J. Math. 121, 271-279 (1986; Zbl 0582.20041)] plays an important role. In the present paper the author gives the solution of some equations and inequalities involving the power operator. For all pseudovarieties \(\mathcal V\) under study the power-pseudovariety \({\mathcal P}{\mathcal V}\) is contained in the class of locally commutative semigroups.
