Under certain assumptions, first, the functional equation \(\sum^ t_ 0P_ i(x)\Phi(\varphi^{[i]}(x))=\tau(x)\) is studied over the field of \(p\)-adic numbers, where \(P_ i\), \(\Phi\) and \(\tau\) are formal power series and \(\varphi^{[i]}(x)\) the iterates of the function \(\varphi\). Second, the following application is given: The system \(\sum^ t_ 0P_ i(x)\Phi(q^ i_ 1x)=0\), \(\sum^ s_ 0Q_ i(x)\Phi(q^ i_ 2x)=0\), where \(P_ i\) and \(Q_ i\) are polynomials with \(P_ 0Q_ 0\not\equiv 0\), and \(q_ 1\), \(q_ 2\) multiplicatively or algebraically independent, may have a formal power series \(\Phi\) as solution. Then \(\Phi\) is the Taylor series at the origin of a rational function.
