A note on ``The discrete Lyapunov function\dots '' (Q687503)

For the equation \(x'(t)=f(x(t),x(t-1))\) under specific assumptions implying that the semi-flow is monotonic, results of \textit{Y. Cao} [J. Differ. Equations 87, 365-390 (1990; Zbl 0717.34086)] are used to study sustained oscillations; in particular existence of infinitely many solutions exhibiting sustained oscillations is obtained. Comments in the proof of an important result of Cao represent the content of the last section.
