Pointing out that the action of the self-dual Yang-Mills theory is very similar in form to that of the Wess-Zumino-Novikov-Witten (WZNW) theory under a special kind of gauge, the author compares with the two- dimensional cases and investigates the reductions of self-dual Yang-Mills theory. This comparison suggests that all the reduction schemes can be realized in the four-dimensional case.
