The authors prove convergence of a class of attractive, reversible particle systems with infinite range of interaction in the hydrodynamic limit. The limit dynamics is given by a nonlinear diffusion equation with density dependent diffusion coefficients, which have a singularity at a critical value of the density. This singular behaviour is related to self-organized criticality of open systems.
